Challenges for the Media in Covering Trade, Climate, and Macroeconomic Policy

OCTOBER 9, 2025 | 6:00-7:00pm CST

How can journalists provide authoritative analysis of big global challenges at a time when the views of policymakers and the public are increasingly polarized? Whom do they talk to for informed insights on current news stories in a world of widespread misinformation, powerful special interests, and technological upheaval in the media? And how do they ensure impartiality in their reporting?

This panel will explore these questions with three reporters from leading newspapers—Ben Casselman (New York Times), Clive Crook (Bloomberg) and Greg Ip (Wall Street Journal)—focusing particularly on controversies around public finances, climate change, and tariffs & the world trading system. The conversation will be moderated by Romesh Vaitilingam (Clark Center for Global Markets at Chicago Booth, VoxEU and the Economics Observatory).

RSVP is required to attend.
