What is a Principal Researcher?

As a Principal Researcher at the Center for Applied AI, you conduct groundbreaking research exploring the intersection of AI with business disciplines, both independently and alongside Booth Faculty colleagues. Your work combines technical innovation with novel applications, generating significant contributions that advance understanding of AI's impact on business and society. You actively participate in the academic community through workshops and seminars, while also sharing your technical expertise by teaching quarterly workshops for fellow researchers.

Application Requirements

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Pursues collaborative research to be presented at academic forums and published in peer-reviewed academic journal. 
  2. Engages in the intellectual environment of CAAI, Chicago Booth, and UChicago. 
  3. Guides data collection, evaluation and analysis. May design and manage databases. Writes reports, articles and manuscripts. 
  4. As necessary, performs administrative duties associated with the management of a research project and/or group. 
  5. Plans and delivers technical workshops for faculty, PhD students, and research professionals.
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Ph.D., earned or expected by September 2025, in CS or related fields with expertise in AI/ML and interests in business and policy applications required.
  2. At least three years of strong record of research productivity in machine learning and artificial intelligence required.
  3. Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with faculty, students, staff, and other colleagues through a variety of communication channels required.
  4. Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, as well as organizational skills required.
  5. Ability to work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes required.
